Dilemma of choosing EC or CS.

Question

Many of you have gone through this phase and most certainly more experienced than I am, as  far as I know CS is a subset of EC in CS you can get software jobs but in EC you get electronics telecommunication as well as software jobs plus u can go for UPSE and other core government sector jobs too.Also some seniors told me that syllabus of CS can be completed by self study but it's not the same with EC.As CUSAT EC and CS both are good branches and CS may have an edge over EC on campus but off campus EC have a wide scope.(Some extract of my chat with a 2008 EC pass out).I am not here to hurt feelings but I am asking this out of curiosity.NO DISRESPECT INTENDED to any branch and branch members.

THEN YOU MUST TAKE EC BUT THEN BE PREPARED TO STUDY HARD AS THE SYLLABUS IS TOUGH COMPARED TO CS

COMPANIES VARY FROM YEAR TO YEAR

NO THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE IF YOU ARE TALENTED

THEY PAY FOR THE TALENT

GOOD COMPANIES WILL COME EVERY YEAR BUT YOU WILL BE SELECTED ONLY IF YOU ARE CAPABLE AND GOOD ENOUGH AND KNOW YOUR SUBJECT WELL

Well i went throug the same dilemma....But from what my brother advises,[hes nw studying fr phd]ec is a really hard syllabus to complete....and cs is easy compared to it.cse also have lots of off job opportunities...so considering job safety its better to go for cse as ec people get software jobs with less salary compared to cse people.

YES YOU ARE RIGHT WITH EC YOUR OPTIONS IN THE GOVT SECTOR ARE OPEN IN IES AND MANY OTHER PSU's

EC IS NOT THAT TOUGH BUT IN COMPARISON TO CE IT IS TOUGH

NOW IT DEPENDS UPON YOUR INTEREST AND CAPABILITIES

FOR CS OFF CAMPUS PLACEMENTS ARE NOT THAT ENCOURAGING

I have interest in both plus I want to compete in UPSE competitions so EC would be my choice.Is there a huge difference in the package of EC and CS ?
Does Samsung or IBM comes to CUSAT during campus?
